Why here

Why guests come back

Golden Bay's far north-west is quiet, wild and still a little secret. This is what you wake up to.

Looking up into the native forest canopy
  1. The view

Panoramic views over Farewell Spit and Kahurangi National Park, sunrise in coral and gold, and the lighthouse beam sweeping the Spit after dark.

  2. The forest

20 acres of private native bush, trapped for rats, stoats and possums ever since we arrived. Tūī at dawn and pīwakawaka for company on the tracks.

  3. The details

A fire laid ready to light, a welcome basket of local goodies and wine, NZ-made botanical toiletries and natural linen.

  4. The night sky

When darkness falls the sky comes alive. Grab a blanket, lie back on the deck and count constellations.

  5. The location

Wharariki Beach, Cape Farewell and Farewell Spit are all close by, and Collingwood is 20 minutes down the road.
